We were delighted to see a lively Instagram post featuring Hugh Jackman proudly displaying his own print in his New York bar — a reminder that La Mama’s influence reaches far beyond Melbourne.

La Mama Theatre is inviting theatre lovers to bring a piece of Melbourne’s cultural history into their homes through a limited-edition series of vintage poster prints. The striking reproductions celebrate the theatre’s early decades and the bold visual identity that helped define Australia’s independent theatre movement.

The collection features four iconic poster designs from the 1960s and 1970s, an era when La Mama was emerging as a fearless space for new writing, experimental performance and emerging artists. Each design has been carefully reproduced as a collectable A2 print, individually numbered and certified, with only 300 prints of each available.

More than nostalgic keepsakes, the prints serve as a meaningful fundraising initiative. Every purchase directly supports La Mama’s ongoing work nurturing independent artists and bringing new Australian stories to the stage.

La Mama Theatre helped shine a spotlight on the initiative with a social media post featuring internationally acclaimed actor Hugh Jackman proudly holding his own La Mama poster inside his New York bar. The image highlights how the theatre’s influence has travelled far beyond its Carlton home, inspiring artists and audiences across the world.

By celebrating its past through these vibrant poster designs, La Mama is also investing in its future — ensuring that generations of independent theatre-makers will continue to find a stage, a community and a place for bold storytelling.
